ONLINE FIDDLE LESSONS

I am currently offering online fiddle lessons via Zoom. My main focus in my teaching is to expand my students' toolkits so they can start playing tunes the way they want to play them.

I do a lot of work on

  • bowing technique and exercises
  • groove, pulse and getting rhythm into tunes
  • getting old English tunes off the page and into the air again
  • helping people find repertoire

I charge £40 per hour, which can be split into two 30 minute lessons, if you want.

I don't teach beginners - it's not something I'm very competent at or confident with.

Do get in touch via the contact page if you would like to know more. If I feel I can't help you, I will let you know and perhaps recommend another teacher :)

Here are some of the things my students have said about my teaching...

I really love the way Sam helps me think about my playing and folk music in new ways. He’s so enthusiastic and inspiring and I leave every lesson excited about improving and with a really clear idea of what to work on next.”
As a Scottish fiddle teacher, I was really interested to find out more about the English folk style of playing. My lesson with Sam was brilliant. His way of explaining complicated technique was clear, concise and made complete sense without baffling me. He was extremely patient and encouraging and gave me lots of tips and technique exercises to work on. I would highly recommend having lessons with Sam. I felt privileged to be able to tap into his knowledge and would love to have another lesson sometime soon. Thanks Sam!!!”

PATREON

I am now on Patreon. If you're a fiddle player, for £10 per month you can get access to some fiddle tuition videos, which I am releasing once a fortnight or so. Join me!

Sam Sweeney is not only a fantastic player and a wonderful teacher, but also an inspiration.”
I went to Sam for lessons because I liked his playing the best of anyone. And I still do!”
The workshop was brilliant, really accessible and gave me lots of ideas to improve my technique. I'd love to come to another workshop in future.”
The workshop was very enjoyable - there were some very useful tips on how to get that folky feel into your playing and some excellent tunes as well.”
